Preforming a Manual Traffic Count
For Pearl Traffic Counts:
In order to preform a fair and comparable manual traffic count to the Pearl Traffic Counter Devices employees must follow the below guidelines and processes.
When preforming a manual traffic count it's important to remember the following:
- Children under 54 inches in total height (head to toe) do not count towards traffic counts,
- Strollers, carts, and assistive walking devices do not count towards traffic,
- Groups count as individual adults (example: 1 group of 5 adults is 5 traffic counts & 1 group of 4 adults 1 child counts as 4 traffic counts, etc.),
- Customers who walk in the store, crossing the traffic counter, then walk out, and come back in, count as 2 individual traffic counts as they've crossed the entry line twice.
Employees and stores performing a manual traffic count should reach out directly to the IT Department via the helpdesk with any questions around a manual count.
For 3D Scope Traffic Counts:
When preforming a manual traffic count it's important to remember the following:
- Children under 54 inches in total height (head to toe) do not count towards traffic counts,
- Strollers, carts, and assistive walking devices do not count towards traffic,
- Groups count as individual adults (example: 1 group of 5 adults is 5 traffic counts & 1 group of 4 adults 1 child counts as 4 traffic counts, etc.),
- Customers who walk in the store but do not cross the entry threshold and leave do not count.
- Customers who walk in the store and cross the entry threshold, leave the store, but do not cross the exit threshold still count as the same customer.
- Customers who fully enter, exit, then re-enter the space more than 60 seconds from the exit time are to be counted again.
- Doorways/Gates/Signage Removal/Similar items do not count towards traffic.

For Both Manual Counts, employees must count their co-workers who enter/exit the store using the front door for all start of shifts, ends of shifts, breaks, etc. Employees who enter/exit through the stock room door are not to be counted. (Generally employee counts do not make a huge difference in the total traffic count). Employees upon submitting their manual traffic count must indicate the number of times by which an employee entered/exited the store using the front door.
Teams must submit their manual counts using the "Manual Traffic Count (Report)". Once submitted the IT Department will run an accuracy test based on the information provided, that of in TMAS, and from a review of CCTV data (as needed). Teams will be asked to preform a manual count Monday-Thursday between the hours of 12:00 pm and 8:00pm local time. The Squishable IT Department will provide specific dates and times for the manual count to occur. Teams are welcome to preform manual traffic counts at their own discretion, however, only ones requested by the retail operations team and audited by the IT Department will be used to determine a locations traffic accuracy. Teams must submit one "Manual Traffic Count (Report)" for each date and time the Squishable IT Department requests the manual count occur. A minimum of two manual count days and times will be preformed to determine accuracy. To ensure all data is marked and provided appropriately teams are asked to provide the manual count reports upon completion of the scheduled time and date.
