Chip/Card Reader not Working
Required Hardware: Square Bluetooth Card/Chip Reader
Required Permission(s): Store Manager
Important Notes: Wireless Chip/Card Readers rely on a consistent Wireless Access, unsecure/inconstant WiFi may result in a non-functional device.
Square Point of Sale Stand
1st Generation
(On 1st Generation Stands, the Chip/Tap Card Readers are externally attached to the stand via USB)
2nd Generation
(On 2nd Generation Stands, the Chip/Tap Card Readers are directly attached to the stand itself)

Step 1: Navigate to the Square App
Step 2: Navigate to Settings(This is where a manager permission is required/pin)
Step 3: Navigate to Hardware - in this menu you can see all active devices (wired and wireless) that are currently connected to your stand as well as device status'
Step 4: Locate the Contactless and Chip device. See if the device is connected or disconnected.
If Connected:
Step 1: Check to see if the device is Bluetooth or USB/Wired
Step 1a: if wired follow the cable from the USB stand to the USB hub and ensure a secure connection.
Step 1b: secure connection if necessary. If already secured unplug and re-plug in the device. This will re-establish the connection
If Disconnected:
Step 1: Check to see if the device is Bluetooth or USB/Wired
Step 1a: if wired follow the cable from the USB stand to the USB hub and ensure a secure connection.
Step 1b: Unplug and re-plug in the device. This will re-establish the connection.
Step 1: Navigate to Square App
Step 2: Click on My Devices (Top Right Corner)
Step 3: Scroll down and click Stand
Step 4: Navigate to Restart Square Stand (At the bottom of the page)
Step 5: Confirm Square Stand has restarted.
